Here we are. On the 3rd of September the Egn Conference 2013, that is the World Geoparks Conference, will be held in Italy, in Ascea, in the Cilento National Park. During four days several meetings and initiatives will take place, 259 foreign delegations and 75 italian ones representing 40 Countries will participate. During the conferences on the 4th and 5th September 150 researches will be described with regards to volcanoes, earthquakes, geotourism, climate change and geo-conservation. On the 5th of September in the evening the new Italian and foreign geoparks will be announced. Federparchi-Europarc Italia wish participants to have good workdays. "It is an important event which also the world greatest experts on this field will take part in. We will also talk about international tourism, research and sustainable development, which are important themes for Federparchi, whose members are also several geoparks", says the President Giampiero Sammuri. The Cilento's area, the Italian Forum of Geoparks and also Federparchi-Europarc Italia are proud to host in Italy the 12th World Geoparks Conference. The delegates from Cilento achieved this result a year ago in Norway, a matter of pride for the President Amilcare Troiano, the director Angelo De Vita and the staff who worked to achieve these results: the geologist Aniello Aloia, Nicola Catino and the professors Alessio Valente and Mariana Amato. After a fast debate they managed to convince the international bodies of the European Geopark Network to choose the Cilento National Park.
Today there are 92 geoparks spread all over the world, 54 are situated in Europe. Italy and Spain come in first place in Europe with eight geoparks situated in their territories, and in second place in the world after China numbering 27 geoparks. The Italian geoparks are often already recognized as protected areas, from Trentino (Adamello Brenta Nature Park) to Sardinia (Parco Geominerario Storico e Ambientale), from Liguria (Beigua Regional Nature Park) to Sicily (Rocca di Cerere District and Madonie), by way of Tuscany (Colline Metallifere and Apuan Alps) and Campania (Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park).
