Definition
Moncalieri Lattughino includes two kinds of lettuce: Parella lettuce and Zuccherina lettuce.
They both belong to the species Lactuca sativa L., family Asteraceae or Compositae, and are annual herbaceous plants consisting of a more or less developed central nucleus of very tender leaves, whole and leaning one against the other.
The edible part is formed by the leaves forming a more or less open small-size heads, that are eaten raw in salad.
Both products are fragrant, crunchy, and fresh. Zuccherina lettuce, as you can understand from the name, is sweeter and more tender.
