Pescarenico - Caloziocorte

Itinerary 1

  • Trail Conditions: On foot
  • Interest: Hystory

The itinerary leaves from the village of Pescarenico, the only place in the area of Lecco explicitly mentioned in I Promessi Sposi (The Betrothed), the novel by Alessandro Manzoni. In the 17th century, the village was inhabited by families holding the right to practice fishing in the stretch of the river Adda between the two lakes of Lecco and Garlate, very rich in fish. Piazza Era is the main square, the landing stage of the fishermen's boats (source: Apt Lecco). Moreover, it is recommended to visit the ancient district, San Cristoforo square, and the 1576 former Monastery of the Capuchin Friars, of which only the church, which has become the village parish church, remains. Once you reach Calolziocorte, you can visit the Sanctuary of Beata Vergine del Lavello (15th century) and the Botanic Garden.
