The Naturalistic Museum of Colfiorito Regional is located in its new headquarters, "barracks" restored by the Municipality of Foligno.
The Museum, created in 2002 with the collaboration of institutions and qualified experts, represents a specific cultural asset of the Plestini Plateau territory.
The display material is organized in models and panels, telling the geomorphological evolution, the botanical characteristics and the fossil peculiarities of all the Plestine Plateaus.
Inside there are entomological boxes that preserve specimens of Lepidoptera, Odonati, Hemiptera and Coleoptera present in the Colfiorito area; the bird section has been enriched with the Piscini collection (a taxidermist from the Province of Macerata), with its 52 stuffed bird specimens representing the most significant species of the marsh and the surrounding environments, including a specimen of particular value like the Eurasian Bitter (Botaurus stellaris), a symbol species of the Park.
The Museum mainly has didactic aims: it plays an important integration function between man and natural environment with the promotion of educational, sensitization, and scientific research activities. Moreover, the Museum houses a multimedia hall suitable for projections and conferences, as well as a didactic lab equipped with microscopes and housing a complete herbarium of the Park flora, organized to welcome students and people fond of natural science.
