Monitoring activities continue in Bosco Nordio - sic zps it3250032

(Bosco Nordio, 18 Apr 13) Within the activities of the LIFE Project in progress continue the monitoring of the ponds carried out in 2011 with the concrete C6 action. Recent good news is the colonization of some ponds in the Reserve by young specimens of Common Spadefoot (Pelobates fuscus) coming from the reintroductions carried out during the last years.
Night recordings made with the aid of a hydrophone (a particular underwater microphone) have documented the presence of several males of this rare species (classified as priority species in the "Habitat" Directive), along with Agile Frogs and Italian Agile Frogs.
Some young Common Spadefoot female specimens were also captured near the same ponds: their age may not yet be sufficient to allow the deposition of the eggs, but the researches will continue next weeks, in order to ensure any further positive development.
