At Sacca di Goro, in the northernmost portion of Parco Delta del Po Emilia-Romagna, in the province of Ferrara, the freshwater coming from the Po River meets the saltwater from the sea, helping the development of numerous species, and especially shellfish such as clams, mussels and oysters. This environment, which is unique in its symbiosis of man and ecosystem, is today the world's second site (and Europe's first) for clam breeding, a recent tradition - which only started in the 1970s - which however fits into a long history of relationship between man and sea.
