Comacchio old town

  • Trail Conditions: On foot, By bike, Boat
  • Interest: Hystory

    Walking on the bridges
From the monumental Trepponti bridge to the Sbirri bridge; along the canal of Via Agatopisto to San Pietro bridge; get to opposite side and cross the small, cotto-tiled Pizzetti bridge; turn immediately left and follow the canal of via Buonafede, thus reaching the back of the former hospital (the alley on the right leads back to via Agatopisto). Take via E. Fogli, walking along the water and past the bridge of Via Cavour. Cross two more bridges in via Carducci (Rione Carmine); take via del Rosario, then via Muratori, and you'll find yourself back at Trepponti bridge.

    The "history" of tradition
After visiting Manifattura dei Marinati (Park's visitor centre), start from the Sanctuary of Santa Maria in Aula Regia, walk under the Capuchin portico and reach the town centre, where you can see the cathedral of San Cassiano and the imposing bell tower. Go on toward Piazzetta U. Bassi and turn left on via Cavour, where you can access the memorial to the fallen. Walk along the canal as far as rione Carmine, with the church of the same name dedicated to St. Mary. From the bridge opposite you can get a clear glimpse of the Rosario  church of via Sambertolo. Walk along Piazza Folegatti then via E. Fogli, as far as the small  church of San Pietro, attached to the former San Camillo hospital (XVIII century), which now houses the Museum of Human Cultures of the Po Mouth.

    The town by boat
The town can also be visited by boat. There are several points of departure, where volunteer associations offer free trips on the traditional "batane" boats that dock under the Trepponti bridge. Evocative itineraries lead to the former San Camillo hospital (now Museum of Human Cultures of the Po Mouth), Palazzo Bellini and the nearby Museum of the Roman Ship.
