    On Po di Goro riverbanks
The walk along the riverbanks of Po di Goro (approximately 25 km) starts at Mesola Castle visitor centre, goes past Sacca di Goro, and reaches Lanterna Vecchia, in Valle Gorino. The first stretch runs along a long section of the Po river, among riverbank woods and floodplains; to the right there are cultivated fields, poplar woods and patches of thermophilic woods above which the hobbies hover. By Goro the floodplain opens in a beautiful marsh - Valle Dindona - which houses a breeding ground of black-crowned night herons, little egrets, Squacco herons and cattle egrets. Shortly after the marsh, the "Sacca" is a large inlet enclosed by a long stretch of sand projected into the Adriatic. Thousands birds rest here in the winter, while in the spring all the rivermouth-nesting seagull and tern species can be observed. The itinerary ends at the old lighthouse, overlooking the vast reed beds of Valle Gorino, due to the freshwater Po mouth; marsh harriers and purple herons nest here, and are easily observed in flight or along the reed beds borders; ducks and birds dwelling in muddy areas live in the open patches.
