In several valleys of the eastern alpine chain, the civilization of Regole Ampezzane transformed the community life into the cornerstone of its survival and the rational and rationed exploitation of the available resources. A European and alpine protected area like Dolomiti d'Ampezzo Park was not born with the aim to safeguard its naturalistic aspects and landscape; although they are aspects of great scientific and tourist importance, the protected area was born with the aim to enhance a mountain civilization which built over the centuries an almost perfect balanced relationship with its natural surroundings.
