Recommended period: June-October (March-April for Grotta di Tofana).
Main interesting aspects: The main reason to carry out a trip around the Tofana is without a doubt the impressiveness and the magnificence of its walls; however, there are also interesting geomorphological, floristic, and historical aspects, since the itinerary develops in one of the most hard-fought areas during the Great War. Grotta della Tofana in spring is a natural wonder which you cannot miss.
Difficulty: The main itinerary leads you to overcome the rock fall at the basis of the Masarié on an exposed stepladder (Scala del Minighèl); however, this stretch can be avoided. The alternative routes of Grotta di Tofana and Castelletto are equipped only for short stretches and require the use of the torch; to go through this stretches, it is necessary to be equipped for a "ferrata", that is a route fitted with ropes, metal ladders, etc. The access to Grotta di Tofana in the spring requires the use of axe and crampons.
How to get to the departure point: If you come from Cortina, follow SS no. 48 delle Dolomiti towards the west and Falzarego Pass until the Km 108.5; park the car on the right, near the large square adjacent to a track maintenance house (Casa Cantoniera).
