The Scoltenna is one of the main streams of Emilia Romagna and the main envoy of the Panaro River. It comes from the territory of Pievepelago from the union of some streams that descend from the mountains of the Frignano Park. Among the emissaries the main one is the Rio delle Tagliole, 10 km long, which flows from the north side of Mount Rondinaio (1,964 m above sea level), descends downstream in a northeasterly direction after receiving the emissaries of Lake Santo and Lake Baccio and arrives in the town of Ponte Modino, on the southern outskirts of Pievepelago. Scoltenna and Rio delle Tagliole converge in a single course near Ponte Picchiasassi, municipality of Dogana nuova.
