The calendar 2014 of the Park Authority: 30 years of the Park told by 12 faces
(Mantova, 21 Dec 13) For the 30th anniversary of its establishment neither the wonderful pictures of the animal and plant species, nor those of the landscapes we are used to see published in the calendar since 1988, but people will tell us the 12th month of 2014.
The 12 protagonists were chosen by the park to summarize different ways to live and love the protected area. "We entrusted human beings with the task to represent the park from the point of view of what it means for the community inhabiting it and of the opportunities it offers" - says the president of the Park Maurizio Pellizzer - "because the protected area is a common good, and safeguarding it is the best gift we can offer to the next generations".
The personalities representing the 12th months in the Park were photographed by Vito Magnanini, a photographer who set them in the most representative spaces and places. The calendar is therefore a picture of what has been built and preserved in this territory over thirty years.
The beginning of the year is represented by Gabriele Spadi, an expert boatmantestimony to the river sailing as a profession derived from the traditional picking of the marsh vegetation, fishing and hunting that once characterized the economic life of the Mincio valleys. River tourism determined the creation of many job opportunities over these 30 years. Five shipping companies carry thousands of passengers every year: from the old boats of the cane pickers to the motor boats and the canoes.
