The rammed rocks and the Lagoni

To the left of the path opens a first panoramic view of the whole Lagoni, while on the edge of the path there is a sandstone outcrop in the shape of a "cetacean back" on the surface of which there are several trays dug in the sandstones. It is an example of rammed rock, shaped and smoothed by the action of ice. The rammed rocks are generally rounded at the top and along the side facing upstream, showing a more irregular side towards the valley and overall an elongated shape according to the direction of movement of the glacier. Their formation is due to the pressure exerted by the mass of the ice above and the powerful emery action carried out by the debris at the base of the glacier. Some large blocks of sandstone can also be seen on the outcrop; they are erratic boulders or fragments resulting from glacial extraction, a peculiar action of the ice that sees the fragmentation of blocks from the rocks.
The trays, on the other hand, are small shapes (10-20 cm in diameter) on the bottom of which the water can stagnate, coated with a dark patina, due to the presence of endolithic algae. They meet on poorly inclined sandstone outcrops, where they are modeled by alteration and dissolution of the carbonate cement of the sandstones, starting from cavities previously formed by erosion on ice-rock contact, but which continue to deepen and expand even currently due to chemical alteration phenomena.
