An imposing fortress called Le Verrucole blocks Garfagnana where Serchio Valley gets narrow between the spurs of Pania di Corfino and the spurs of Apuane, in front of Rocca di Camporgiano. Behind it, wings of hills and valleys covered with chestnut tree woods conceal ruins of mountain rural buildings: at the top, Orecchiella Park, a sanctuary to recover and enhance the landscape, while if you go down you will meet the historical town of San Romano.
