(Sede Parco Cinque Terre, 10 Dec 21) The Cinque Terre Marine Protected Area, established in 1997, preserves an extraordinary wealth of biodiversity, habitats, and species protected at EU level. It is an integral part of the Pelagos Sanctuary, the most important reserve in the Mediterranean Sea for the conservation of marine mammals. Thanks to the geomorphological features of its seabed, benthic and pelagic species share habitats full of nutrients. Once the realm of the bluefish fishing, today it is home to a small fleet of boats, dedicated to sustainable artisanal fishing. The AMP (MPA) is an important laboratory for applied marine and coastal research studies, where environmental recovery interventions are tested, together with the academic and scientific worlds.
