History
The presence of the cultivation of beans in the whole territory of the Park has always represented, for the mountain populations, a source of sustenance and income, especially in the places overlooking the waterways. The characteristic of cultivation of the past was the association with corn, serving as a guardian of the runner bean. Both L'Aquila side of the park, mainly along the Aterno and Tirino rivers, and the Teramo side along the Tordino river, but also the areas of Pescara along the Tirino and Tavo rivers, ending up in Ascoli and Rieti on the Tronto river, revealed a multitude of ecotypes of beans that have been preserved over time and which still represent a wealth of biodiversity for these places. Each bean ecotype has a history and a well-defined use based on its characteristics.
