Following the road SS 17 from L'Aquila, turning to the historical town center of Barisciano, where the ancient monastery of S. Colombo houses the Park Floristic Research Center, you will reach after a few kilometers the characteristic village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio, surrounded by a fascinating natural setting. The medieval central nucleus was dominated, until the earthquake of 6th April 2009, by the imposing "Medicea" Tower, standing out from the town silhouette as evident expression of power. At the moment, the tower is in reconstruction.
