Summer 2019: Pantelleria gains the Legambiente and Touring Club of Italy Five Sails
(Pantelleria, 12 Jun 19) "It is one of the biggest and the most evocative among small Italian islands. After the violent fire in 2016 that destroyed hundreds of hectares of forests, the island has been able to recover thanks to the newly established National Park and the appointment of the President and the Boards of Directors. Hence the start of a new season made up of initiatives so as to promote and protect one of the best preserved agricultural landscapes of our country. Pantelleria is famous for its sapling vines and its dry-stone walls surrounding the ancient terraces overlooking the sea, both protected by UNESCO. It could boast a particularly picturesque landscape and a community that has managed to preserve its territory, even with exceptional naturalistic and geological emergencies". With these words, Legambiente and Touring Club of Italy have decided to assign the Five Sails to the sea of Pantelleria, that is therefore inserted into the guide of The most beautiful sea for 2019.
