Strawberries, wild strawberries, bilberries, raspberries, blackberries, white and red currants are cultivated in Nebrodi Mountains in spring - summer.
These fruits are very rich in vitamins and other properties: they have always spontaneously grown in the woodlands and, for about ten years, they are cultivated outdoor.
Berries, strawberries, and wild strawberries represent an excellent niche product for their aspect, colors, unmistakable perfume, and several intrinsic qualities.
- Cultivation / Production Area: Nebrodi
- History: The Arabs called Nebrodi "an island in the island" because, for their landscape rich in woodlands, mountain pastures, lakes, and streams, they are in contrast with the most common image of a dry Sicily. Blackberries, bilberries, currants, and wild strawberries find ideal conditions in these places and represent a chance for mountain agriculture which, necessarily and knowingly, considers production models integrated with the territory, the landscape, and the social and economic context.
