Parco Naturale del Ticino

Mulino Vecchio di Bellinzago

The publication was born from a collaboration between the Park and ENAIP of Oleggio and Novara, and therefore is a significant product of the relationship Park/school, representing for almost twenty years the essential basis of the promotional activities carried out by Ticino Park.
In the school year 1997/98, ENAIP organized the traning course for "Tecnici per il rilievo grafico e fotografico e la catalogazione dei Beni Etnografici" (Technicians for the graphic and photographic survey and cataloging of the Ethnographic Heritage) and in the spring 1998 it carried out a survey stage at Mulino Vecchio of Bellinzago. Most of the content you will find in the handout is the result of the work carried out by the students of ENAIP during their stage at Mulino.
After an introduction on the creation of the environmental education regional center at Mulino Vecchio of Bellinzago, the handout describes the history of the water mills in our area and their economic and social importance over the centuries, until the gradual decline of the rural civilization.
Of particular interest, the chapter dedicated to cereals in the diet in Novara and surroundings between the late 18th and the late 19th century, with information and curiosities on the diet habits of our ancestors, told by Giampietro Morreale.
Afterwards, there are the chapters dealing with the history of Mulino Vecchio of Bellinzago, with the description of the various stages regarding its building and the working of the Mill.
A note of local folklore is contained in the memories of Giacomo Musetta, who recalls the values of a culture based on the respect of the territory and its resources.
The volume ends with the description of the work carried out at Mulino Vecchio by the students of ENAIP, completed by 14 survey tables annexed to the text.
