Campagnano Artichoke

In the territory of Veio Park there are occasional cultivations of Campagnano artichoke, which is one of the two cultivars of the Roman artichoke PGI Lazio. This cultivar is a late production, giving the first flower heads with a commercial size from March-April. The late production is the reason why this cultivar was abandoned in the past: the low sale price due to the late marketing did not compensate for the expenses. Today, producers are trying to recover the cultivation of this product, which is an original product of the area of Veio Park. The artichoke has round and compact flower heads, with a characteristic hole at the apex. It has a green-violet color and a sweet and pleasant taste.
