Bergeggi Botanic Route: From the Maquis to the Cork Oak Wood

  • Trail Conditions: On foot
  • Interest: Flora
  • Duration: 3 hour/s
  • Difficulty Level: easy

The territory of Bergeggi, rich in an extraordinary variety of environments, vegetable and animal species, has been enriched with an instrument having important didactic-tourist-promotional purposes.
A botanic route has been laid out along the trail connecting Torre d'Ere with Gola S. Elena, the most adequate for this purpose under various aspects: it boasts a rich and varied flora, it entirely develops in a municipal property, has car parks near the entrances, it is accessible also by public means of transport (bus stop Bergeggi-Savona in Torre d'Ere square), is easy, panoramic, and gives the opportunity to reach on foot Natte cork oak wood.
The itinerary is equipped with two panels situated at the entrances and illustrating the rules of behavior, the map of Bergeggi trails, and the development of the itinerary itself. Along the way, special bookstands illustrate 18 vegetable species particularly representative of our flora, like: Sageleaf Rockrose, Montpelier cistus, Rock rose, Ivy, Phyllirea, Ilex tree, Mastic tree, Myrtle, Olive tree, Navelwort, Pellitory-of-the-wall, Aleppo pine wood, Butcher's Broom, Black locust tree, Common madder, Downy oak, Rough Bindweed.
Next to a characteristic rural building working in the past as a shelter for farmers and called "Teciu", you will find two tables with benches.
The guided visit will lead you to the panoramic point of Forte S. Elena and then down towards the cork oak wood you will entirely cross. Here you will find a second picnic area with two tables and benches. After crossing the cork oak wood, you will reach the end of the trail in via Luccoli, near the Town Hall.
