Inspired by the Passion of Jesus told by the Gospel, but not only.
This
"musical polyptych" recovers the Marian tradition from the Middle Ages
until the 19th century and the religious mystery of the Calvary is
read according to Turoldo's interpretation of the most disturbing book
of the Old Testament, the Ecclesiastes.
Qohelet has bewildered the
followers with the repeated statement of the vanity of life and
everything. The book of Qohelet is the complaint of a community which
cannot see the salvation brought by the Messiah and want to shout its
distress. However, this book - together with Job's - has also suggested the
deepest meditations of western spirituality: among the others, those of
David Maria Turoldo who, within the atmosphere of Biblical pessimism,
asserts the hope of the prophecy.
