The volume analyzes and compares the Sacri Monti of the prealpine area, reconstructing their common history and focusing on their common religious culture - from Franciscan roots to Borromean roots - and artistic culture. The monumental artistic typology of Sacri Monti was born and developed between the late 15th and the early 17th century by interpreting the features of the naturalistic environment of the prealpine area. Sacri Monti are a "system" of several big-size chapels connected as a via crucis or forming a town, each housing a group of statues dedicated to a "mystery" of the life of Christ or the Saints.
