Between Simbruini and Ernici Mountains, at the border between Abruzzi and Lazio, a large amphitheater-shaped valley houses Zompo lo Schioppo Reserve, a very important area from a naturalistic point of view.
The Nature Reserve, named after a waterfall and set as a pearl among rocks and forests, is crossed by watercourses, bears and deer, is populated by owls, woodpeckers, and hawks, is colored by orchids, anemones, and gentians, among monumental beech trees or groups of beech trees forming spectacular forests.
