Info
Protected Areas in Turkey
In Turkey a policy of protection and conservation of the stunning natural and cultural assets and of the fields symbolizing our victorious battles has already been established on national and international bases. Protected areas of different status have been established in order to bequeath this heritage to future generations. According to the Law which came into force in 1983, 4 types of definition of protected areas were born: National Parks, Nature Reserves, Nature Parks, and Nature Monuments.

National Parks
In terms of scenic beauty rich in flora and fauna, or areas of great historical importance, Turkey’s 33 official national parks are of great interest to visitors. In addition there are 16 areas which have been recognised as natural parks or nature reserves, which are valued for their aesthetic, botanical and scientific value and their cultural and natural qualities preserved. These natural areas can provide a welcome break from the busy atmosphere of Turkey’s cities and resorts.

Nature Parks
They are 16 nature places including resorts, tourism facilities, and protected areas with national and international natural and cultural resources of rare beauty.

Natural Monuments
The 58 Natural Monuments are subject to the regulations of the National Parks. They are important as far as scientific and natural aspects are concerned, and may sometimes turn out to be a rock or a waterfall.

Nature Reserves
In addition to National Parks, there are 35 areas that have been specifically preserved in order to protect endangered species of flora and fauna. Some of them are used for scientific research and educational studies.

In this page the Turkish protected areas are completed with the name of the place (in italics) they are situated in, according to the presentation choice of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey.
