The new mountain hut on Mt. Antola is situated at 1,460m of altitude and at about 10 minutes walk from the summit of Mt. Antola, along the trail leading to Bavastrelli (trail marker: 2 empty yellow squares).
The structure consists of two different buildings connected by a hall welcoming the visitors when they arrive. The building has an outdoor terrace facing the breathtaking view over Brugneto Lake and not only: the choice of the large glass walls offers the tourist unique views over the surrounding beech forest.
The real innovation of the Mountain hut is represented by the use of energy saving materials. The walls, the floors, and the finishing have been made with transpiring concrete blocks, not polluting and with no chemical additives, as well as paintings and plasters, ensuring at the same time impermeability to the atmospheric agents.
Water is supplied by a nearby spring at 1,390m. As far as the heating system is concerned, measures reducing the energy consumption to the minimum have been taken:
Besides that, the heating system (two timber and LPG heaters) is integrated with solar panels. The only source of energy for the electric system is provided by photovoltaic panels: thirty-three cells and a supporting generating set for the highest energy needs.
