Evocation and representation of the episodes and places of the Passion of Christ
The lack of recent studies on the story of the devotion to Via Crucis
led to the translation and the publication of the essay by Padre Amédée
(Teetaert) from Zedelgem with the title
Aperçu historique sur la dévotion au chemin de la croix, published in 1949 in the magazine "Collectanea Franciscana".
The text by Amédée from Zedelgem deals with the forms of devotion
developing from the Middle Ages around the Passion of Christ, and which
flew in the practice of Via Crucis. Therefore, among the "devotions
with immediate influence on Via Crucis" it reminds the pilgrimages to
the Holy Land, the monuments dedicated to the commemoration and the
imitation of the sacred place, the series of evocative stations of the
way to the Cross, the calvaries, and the Sacred Mountains.
Beside the essay, translated from French for the first time, the volume
includes introductory texts written for the occasion, which update
issues and contents.
