The history of Sacri Monti dates back to ancient times and was born from a precise spiritual project: connecting places that were already interested by spontaneous forms of devotion and worship, situated in mountain groups consecreted no longer only to the life of Jesus Christ, but also to the Virgin Mary and the Saints. Sacred places where chapels built at various altitudes gave the opportunity to believers to carry out a route of ascent and spiritual concentration.
This heritage, maintained or renovated throughout the centuries, is today open to those people, believers or not, who want to discover and enjoy the centuries-old history, enriched with the artistic, cultural, and landscape features that have become an integral part of these places.
