Castelvecchio Nature Reserve is situated in Val d’Elsa, a few kilometers westwards from S. Gimignano, one of the most important tourist destinations of the province of Siena. The protected area safeguards a wide woodland including very different vegetational associations, with Mediterranean maquis in the warmest places and woods rich in beech trees and yews at a few hundred meters, near two valley furrows. The ruins of Castelvecchio, from where you can enjoy a wonderful view over the surroundings, are a reference point for the hikes in the Reserve and are without a doubt worth a visit.
