From the origins of life to the enchanted marsh

In spite of human presence, the site preserves a good level of naturalness, thanks to the presence of hygrophilous woods and of a vast network of flatland springs, locally known as fontanassi, along the river. Large pools, formed during the 1950s as a consequence of streambed excavations or digging out of sand and gravel, are also valuable. They include two pools, known as Lago Inferiore and Lago Superiore (lower lake and upper lake) in Quinto di Treviso, as well as those at the borders among the municipalities of Treviso, Silea and Casier.
Very interesting observations are possible in these areas. The best period is the spring, when nature awakens after its winter rest, and plants show their gorgeous flowering. But it is in the colder months that the site hosts important bird species, that migrate from northern and eastern countries and come to winter here, where the climate is milder and food available.
